Amul is an Indian dairy brand owned by the cooperative society, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), based in Anand, Gujarat. GCMMF is controlled by 3.6 million milk producers.
Amul was formally registered on 14 December 1946 as the Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers' Union. The cooperative was founded by Tribhuvandas Kishibhai Patel, who served as its chairman until his retirement in the 1970s.
